Mera Peak.

19th September.

I am now starting to get excited about my up and coming trip to Mera Peak in October! Have started to rummage through the spare bedroom sorting out equipment-its all there somewhere!

Have also began to compile a list of medical necessities. Bandages, plasters, antibiotics, diamox!

Acetazolamide (Diamox): is the most tried and tested drug for altitude sickness prevention and treatment. Diamox seems to works by increasing the amount of alkali (bicarbonate) excreted in the urine, making the blood more acidic. Acidifying the blood drives the ventilation, which is the cornerstone of acclimatisation. Will have to visit my GP for the Diamox.

My weight has now stabilised at 100kg and I am feeling quite fit. I wanted to be a fit 100kg by time I left for Mera, so that goal has been reached and I will now aim for 98kg or less.

My flight schedule has changed. I will be flying to Kathmandu via Doha from Heathrow on the 12th October and will be arriving back at Gatwick on the 14th November.

I will be staying at the Kathmandu Guest House before and after my attempt on Mera. Im really looking forward to the days I will spend in Kathmandu. Cant wait to walk around the amazing streets again with my camera, trying to capture some great photographic shots!
